When the light bulb lights up! – Rita Kamel's Blog

Made of Fire

“Photomaniping” they call it. Now that I’m familiar with most of the Photoshop tools thanks to @CrimsonBeirut and a few books, I’m taking on a few tutorials to see how everything comes together. Some ideas of my own are also taking shape and I will start executing one of them very soon.

Made of Fire Made of FireI chose this picture because I kind of see myself in it. (Not that I have long hair or anything!) It’s fire. Fire can be for passion as much as it can be for rage. This burning feeling we feel inside can consume us in a second sometimes; it can also be very destructive and turn us blind. As long as we channel it, clear our mind, see the big picture, the same fire can be more constructive and used for better ends. Yes, if we put our minds into it, we can control those spontaneous volcanoes!

Photoshop: The trial

I have a confession to make. I never used Photoshop before today icon smile Photoshop: The trial Yep, all my post processing so far was on Lightroom. Further portrait editing was made on Portrait Professional. Actually, these two covered all my needs in terms of post processing and archiving.

I’m no graphic designer and will never pretend to be one. But, I always wondered about how certain photo manipulation related images are made. I also appreciate the possibility of creating something from scratch. Possibilities are endless.

Here is a first trial after picking up a random tutorial online. Changed a bit with colors and sizes (personal preferences) but that’s about it. Not perfect of course, but I’m learning!

Atlas

So how did that help? Well, I learned a few things about a couple of functions in Photoshop although I still haven’t figured out all the “Why”s here and there.. It will come! I chose this image because I’m a fan of mythology. I was fun to do although it took quite a considerable time. I thought it would be very difficult at first; but later I started to pick up a certain “software logic”. (Respect to all designers and illustrators!)

I hope one day I will be able to compose something from my own photography from scratch. Fingers crossed!

What do you think? Keep up or give up?
