I live in a place that makes no sense even to itself… yet I love it.
About civism
Instead anchoring the Lebanese sense of civism, people speak and act based on which religious community they belong to. They also don’t think much of themselves as they rely on external parties to get things done.
People live in place where there is a majority of a certain religion, they go to its related schools, stores..talking about living with diversity.
About leaders/politicians
Leaders build speeches based on their personal experiences and vision, not the people’s.
People follow leaders blindly.
Leaders are nearly viewed as unreachable gods instead of humans who make mistakes.
People get bought and sold depending on the politicians projects.
People don’t stand for their own ideas. The only common point between the leader and the people who follow him is his religion and few ideas, not the whole program (if there was any).
About laws
Men and women are believed to be different. If a woman marries to a non-Lebanese, she looses citizenship and can’t give her nationality to her children. The family of the husband has more rights on the children than the mother. Permission of the husband or the husband’s family in case he is deceased is needed in many cases including traveling.
Civil marriage doesn’t exist.
Nowadays, politicians are writing laws that says we have the right to our rights. And don’t let me get started about the people who made those laws..
About systems
Students learn things, and don’t find related jobs later.
You have to prove to the bank that you don’t need the money if you are applying for a loan.
To get to the hospital, you need to make a reservation before you get sick, even if it’s an emergency. If you are not covered, or can’t afford to pay, no one will come to your rescue.
Security is breached to a level, that anyone can commit the craziest acts on anyone, anywhere at any time of the day and get away with it.
Lebanese are more linked by blood and death than anything else. I barely know families who do not have beloved ones who have been murdered…
There is so much to say..but I will stop here, the purpose is not to list all the negative things that this country is suffering from…but an alarm to the necessity of being positively neutral.
