Street photography with Eric John Kim & Thomas Leuthard!

Thomas Leuthard and Eric Kim towards the end of the workshop.

Street Photography with Eric John Kim & Thomas Leuthard, a workshop organized by Spreadminds. It took place on November 13th and 14th, 2010 at  Ashrafieh Auditorium from 10:00 AM till 06:00 PM. When I first heard of the workshop, I was not sure was to expect. The first time I ever read about Eric Kim and the term “Street Photography” was when I downloaded the PhotographyBB issue #33-Oct. 2010.

So, I signed up out of curiosity and hoped for the best. Upon my arrival, I was gladly surprised and comforted to see Houry and Nareg ; friends I first met during the Photoshoot outing  in Jbeil. They are both great people to take photos with. Weirdly, everybody asked if Houry and I were related!

I personally learned a lot during the workshop. I loved how many photos were screened and commented. I loved how heterogeneous and yet how full of synergy the class was. I loved how from day one everybody added everybody on Facebook and Flickr. I loved how we went walking for hours on the streets of Ashrafieh, this part of Lebanon with which I have a Love &  Hate relationship. I loved the interaction we had with the people. I loved watching Thomas Leuthard taking his photos and how close he would get to take unasked portraits of people.

Long story made short it was a hell of a workshop. I hope Eric Kim and Thomas Leuthard liked Beirut and enjoyed their stay. I hope they come again!

Am I getting any better in taking photographs? Check the Street Photography with Eric John Kim & Thomas Leuthard! album on Flickr.

  1. It was a pleasure to be here and it was a once in a lifetime experience. I sure will come to Beirut one day as it is a city which is really worth exploring. And for street photography it seems to be the best place to be. I’m glad that I could inspire you to go close to the people and to get new ideas of how to take your pictures. Feel free to contact me if you need any advice. Your work is very nice and I will follow it…
