Editor in Chief of RAGMAG, Fida Chaaban reacted to my position towards the censorship Abir Ghattas went through. [Full post]

Legally, was it a case of defamation? Was she committing slander? Or was it cronies calling cronies to force her to take down the inflammatory post

They can and they did, and Abir’s post is deleted. In its place is the following statement: “Due to censorship and limitation of freedom of speech, the content of the blog post written on Jan 10, 2013 titled: “Michael Wright, Spinneys CEO No More”, was forcibly removed.” I am not quoting her for this piece because I don’t know what sort of legal ramifications she might face, especially since the whole situation is shady. How the Lebanese police (who aren’t familiar with blogs, and weren’t able to read enough English to understand said post) were made aware of Abir is more important. Who asked the police to question Abir? Why were the police willing to do so?

Legally, was it a case of defamation? Was she committing slander? Or was it cronies calling cronies to force her to take down the inflammatory post? Was it an intimidation tactic?

I don’t know Michael Wright. I don’t claim to support the allegations made against him nor do I think I am in a position to comment on what he may or may have not done. But I do know that I cannot turn a blind eye to censorship in any way, shape or form. Formulate your own opinions and let’s all hope that no one tries to shut you up on the internet or in print.

I don’t have a blog, but I have an op ed. I am following Rita Kamel’s lead: “As a sign of support, I am re-posting the article regardless of my own opinion about the whole Spinneys case; Abir Ghattas has the right to disagree with a person’s actions.”

This goes beyond any comment.

My weather tweet on LBCI’s night bulletin

My weather tweet on LBCI – Thanks @HindKammourieh for pinpointing it icon smile My weather tweet on LBCIs night bulletin

LBCI My weather tweet on LBCIs night bulletin

The tweet was a joke about the bad weather yesterday. “Who said that swimsuit sales would decrease in winter? Baby think twice! #Lebanon”.

I wrote this in sadness because the storm caused a lot of damages. My thoughts go to all the homeless, the refugees who live in tents, farmers etc… It’s not the first time that storms hit Lebanon. Two years ago, a hail storm caused major damage to my family’s agricultural business. Lebanon’s poor infrastructure and weak government support do not help.

This post & video appear on 2famous!

We went to a Lebanese bloggers meeting organized by Lebanon Aggregator in AltCity to learn about networking. But fuck, the girls there were just too hot! We completely forgot about our initial mission, and only filmed the pretty girls. We’re awfully sorry about this, and we’ll be more professional next time…

If any of the people that we were supposed to network with reads this, please send us a mail!

These two great men are also behind the Walk of Causes.

Mentioned in Communicate (September 2011)

My post “Lebanon and the loyalty programs craze” was mentioned in Communicate (September 2011). Thank you!

Communicate Magazine September 2011 Mentioned in Communicate (September 2011)It says the following: “Rita observes that Lebanon has been seized by a loyalty card craze recently. So she asks questions, usually the right ones, such as why cashiers usually wait for the customer to make his or her purchase before asking if he or she has a loyalty card.”
